Annual Report on Death Penalty in the World, prepared by Radical party's affiliate.


August 4, 2011: the 2011 Report on the death penalty worldwide, supervised again this year by Elisabetta Zamparutti, was presented at the headquarters of Hands Off Cain. Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, Education Minister and Transitional Tunisian Government spokesperson Taïeb Baccouche, Senate Vice President Emma Bonino, HOC President Marco Pannella, HOC Secretary Sergio D’Elia, and Elisabetta Zamparutti all participated at the conference. Also present were ambassadors and representatives of numerous foreign embassies. During the conference, Foreign Minister Frattini said: "Regarding Mubarak, Egypt must show courage in avoiding the temptation for revenge" with the death penalty. "I felt sadness seeing the image of Mubarak in a stretcher at the trial. Above all I thought that only one year ago the ex leader was known around the world as a champion in the fight against terrorism.". Frattini invited Egypt to follow the example of Norway, where the extremists were isolated. "The state's answer cannot be revenge and Egypt should avoid handing the death penalty to someone who practised it when he was in power."....

Marco Pannella is on hunger and thirst strike for Italy go back and be a democracy.

On 23 June the left-leaning newspaper il Manifesto published a picture of Marco Pannella on the cover with the title “his prisons”.

On Tusday June 21st a group of members of the NRPTT to end the censorship surrounding Pannella's iniziative projected the video below on the building seat of RAI (the Italian public broadcasting system) in which Pannella calls for an Amnesty to allow the Italian Republic to go back to be a full-fledged democracy. The video was eventually projected on the oldest Roman prison of Regine Coeli and the Ministry of Justice. The demonstration was eventually stopped by the police....

St. Petersburg bans PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED?!

That's right, St.Petersburg metropolitan officially banned physically challenged people from accessing the public underground transportation.

This outrageous act of discrimination against physically challenged people has been explained by the St. Petersburg metro's management as a "necessary measure" which was CAUSED by the fact that the WHOLE CITY METRO SYSTEM of the St.Petersburg city is NOT, quote unquote "handicapped accessible" - although hundreds of the physically challenged citizens of St.Petersburg use it on a daily basis.

For example, Eugenea Goorova, a student of St. Petersburg University was forbidden from accessing the metropolitan station just yesterday, after she got an A mark at the annual exams and was going home - !because she was in a wheel-chair!.

This goes against all moral and/or common senses! I would like if the people on the Internet who would read this would sign a petition to the St.Petersburg mayor to stop this outrageous abuse of human rights.

"The ordeal of Ershidin Israel, an Uyghur currently in Kazakhstan who for some time has enjoyed the protection of the UN High Commissioner for Refugee, seems to have reached a tragic end: deportation towards China. For reasons that remain unknown to the public Mr. Ershidin has been stripped of the status he was granted by UNHCR and will therefore be handed over to Chinese authorities by the Nazarbayev government soon. As the many precedents tell us, Uyghurs, once back in China, suffer harsh prosecution if not executions.....

MEPs commemorated the 1941 deportations from the Baltic states during a statement from president European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek on 6 June 2011.

14 June marks the 70th anniversary of the mass deportation of thousands of people who were exiled to Siberia during Soviet rule.

More than 30,000 people from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were sent to prison camps under the orders of Joseph Stalin....

Rest In Peace, dear doctor!

Jack Kevorkian, the controversial American doctor who claimed to have assisted more than 100 suicides, has died aged 83.

To his critics, he was Dr Death. To other detractors, Jack the Dripper.

Kevorkian was given plenty of nicknames after receiving international attention in the 1990s, throughout which he waged a defiant campaign to help people end their lives.

But to his supporters, he became the poster boy for legislative reform....

General Mladić arrested: triumph of justice over violence.

“No Peace Without Justice and the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty herald today’s arrest of General Ratko Mladić as a victory for justice and a critical step in the healing of the former Yugoslavia. Nearly sixteen years ago, Bosnian Serb forces under the command of General Ratko Mladić executed more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys and forced another 25,000 women, children and elderly people to leave their homes. The massacre was found to constitute genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in 2004, a finding reaffirmed by the International Court of Justice in 2007...

that the Manifesto-Appeal and its goals, proposed exactly thirty years ago by the Party – now officially named Transnational, Transparty and Nonviolent Radical Party – as received and undersigned by over 140 Nobel Laureates, still reflect the dramatic, historical, compelling matters afflicting the contemporary world;

emphasizes

the tragic, topical nature of what the signatory Nobel Laureates stated in 1981:

“We need to rebel against the false realism which induces people to resign themselves as though it were fatal, to what instead belongs to the responsibility of politics and the "established disorder". We need to fight realistically so that the possible is done and not consumed, perhaps forever.

“If world powers are responsible, they are not the only ones. If the unarmed would not resign themselves to being inert, if they would be more numerous in declaring non-obedience to other laws than this basic law of the rights of men and people, that in the first place is Justice, and the right to life; if the unarmed would go and organize themselves using their few but long lasting weapons of political democracy and the great non-violent "Gandhian" actions, fixing themselves and imposing the choice of objectives from time to time limited and adequate; if this would happen, it would be certain, just as today it is certainly possible, that our times would not be catastrophic.

Petition to the European Parliament and the United States Congress To Place Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on a "No Entry List".

To: European Parliament & US Congress
We, the undersigned, urge the members of these august representative bodies to place Vladimir Putin, Russia's Prime Minister, on a "No Entry List," thus barring him from being able to travel to the European Union and to the United States.

"Who is Mr. Putin?" was a big question 10 years ago. Now anyone who's been in touch with reality knows the answer.

Mr. Putin is the one who explicitly vowed to end terrorism, however terrorist attacks in Russia increased manifold after Putin took office. [1]

Mr. Putin promised to root out corruption, nevertheless during his reign corruption in Russia reached unprecedented levels, in no small part due to Mr. Putin's promotion of his cronies into the highest reaches of Russia's government and business hierarchies. Indeed, almost half of Russia's GDP is lost to bribes. [1],[2],[3],[4],[5],[6],[7],[8]

Mr. Putin began his presidency vowing to fight "legal nihilism" and took an oath to uphold the Russian Constitution. In practice, despite his legal educational background, he consistently displayed blatant disregard for the Russian Constitution and personally encouraged violations of some of its most sacred principles, including Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly and Human Rights. [9],[10]

Mr. Putin instituted and continues to promote a policy of using vast Russian energy resources as a weapon and as an international blackmail mechanism.

Mr. Putin established the infamous "power vertical," which is nothing more than an organized-crime federal system being operated as corruption and oppression apparatus.

During Mr. Putin's reign, fascist ideology has become widely popular among the Russian youth - in no small part due to Mr. Putin's exploiting nationalist themes.

Under Mr. Putin's domination Russia left the path towards becoming a democratic state and became, in Mr. Putin's parlance, "sovereign democracy" and "controlled democracy." In reality, Mr. Putin turned Russia into a "kleptocracy."

Under Mr. Putin's authoritarian regime most of the independent media outlets were shut down or taken over by the government. As of 2011, all TV stations are controlled by the government; there is a single semi-independent radio station and several low-circulation printed outlets left that represent opposition views.

During Mr. Putin's reign, government-sponsored and taxpayer-financed extremist pro-Kremlin youth groups, known as Putlerjugend, were organized and began to hold regular mass rallies and to attack opposition leaders, both verbally and physically.

In Russia, Mr. Putin and his cronies are above the law. Is it purely coincidental that hundreds of the sharpest and well-informed critics of the regime (opposing politicians, investigative journalists, human rights activists, etc.) have been murdered over the past 10 years of Mr. Putin's autocracy?[4],[11]

Mr. Putin continues to use the Russian [in]Justice System to persecute his political opponents. Recently, Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev, Russia's most well-known political prisoners, were sentenced to 14 years in a prison camp, after a second trial based on absurd charges. The trial was remarkable for showing the lengths to which the government was prepared to go to make the surreal case that Messrs. Khodorkovsky and Lebedev stole all the oil their company produced. The Kafkaesque trial and extended sentencing of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev completed the transformation of Russia into an authoritarian regime with a permanent political leadership of Mr. Putin. [2],[12],[13],[14],[15],[16],[17],[18],[19],[20],[21]

To ensure his eternal supremacy over Russia, Mr. Putin is plotting the third trial against Mikhail Khodorkovsky. He's been publicly reiterating the bizarre comparison of the political prisoner with Bernard Madoff and Al Capone on several occasions, including the national television. Mr. Putin is brazenly implanting preposterous images of "brains in the garage" and "blood on Khodorkovsky's hands" into people's minds to justify his despicable lawlessness towards Mr. Khodorkovsky. Not only those signals were manifestly reflected in the second sentence, but the lead prosecutors of the second trial have already made a semi-official statement in one of the more prominent pro-Kremlin Russian newspapers about the likelihood of a third trial against Mr. Khodorkovsky. [12],[14],[20],[21]

Putin is above the Russian law. It's a fact. But enough is enough. He is not above the international law. Putin's abuse of Human Rights in Russia is not just a Russian problem. You can make a loud statement to that effect by denying him entry into the Member States of the European Union and to the United States of America. The Russian people are forbidden to express their will under the constant danger of the persecution. Therefore strong sanctions by the West are vital and urgently needed in order to stop the threat coming from the out-of-control Putin's KGB clique.

The 39th Congress of the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty is officially confirmed for February 17-20 in Chianciano (Italy).

In another message all organizational and logistical information will be forwarded.

To convene our Congress with such a short notice has been a difficult choice, considered the structural weaknesses of our party. However, it was a necessary choice - a decision that we owe, first and foremost, to the many representatives of oppressed and non represented peoples, and to the many nonviolent activists and leaders, who in the last decades have trusted the Party and have demonstrated to be interested and to believe in the political project and reality it represents.

Indeed, we need to update and to propose, again and more strongly, the tools and goals of political nonviolence, of democratic hope, of the universal affirmation of human rights, of European and world federalism as alternatives to the degeneration of liberal democracies towards ‘real democracies’, to the persistent illusion of absolute national sovereignty, and to the eventual systematic cancellation of human rights that have been historically acquired and are now perceived as ‘natural’.

While we are organizing for Thursday, January 20 a demonstration in London to ask the truth on the war in Iraq, which is a key part of the initiative of convening the Congress, we kindly ask you to be ready from now, in your country, in your town, within your political movement or association and with your friends, to circulate this invitation in order to have the highest possible number of significant participants in the Chianciano Congress.

The most important question for us is why one of the Old Testament’s positive heroes, priest of Biblical God, who blessed Abraham, becomes a wearer of a Gnostic revelation? I mean namely Gnostic revelation, because “Gnostic”, or, even more exactly, “Sethianic” character of the tractate, named “Melchisedec”, is evident, even although it is very badly preserved.

In the night of 16-17 January Anatoly Ryabov suffered his second hypertonic
crisis in a week, informs his lawyer Igor Trunov.

Let us remember that Anatoly Ryabov, renowned pianist and professor at
the Central Music School at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P I
Tchaikovsky, Honoured Worker of the Arts of the Russian Federation, long-time professor at the Conservatory, was arrested on 14 January under point (b), part 4, item 132 of the criminal code of the Russian Federation: “Violent Actions of Sexual Character”.

The facts about Ryabov’s detention have become known. The application to the prosecutor’s office was submitted by the mother of Irina, Ryabov’s student, one day prior to his arrest. The prosecutor’s office acted on the application solely on the word of the applicant. Even in Mikhail Pletnev’s case the authorities were not so rigid. The application in this case does not appear justified.

“We simply don’t understand of what he is accused,” said Ryabov’s lawyer
Igor Trunov. “There is no proof. All is absolutely unfounded, is based on the application of the mother of this girl. There were no examinations of the girl; a psychologist did not speak with her. I could never imagine that my client – and elderly man in poor health, which such positive characteristics, registered in Moscow – would be put behind bars. He could not and would not run anywhere; this was hugely unexpected for us. The judge had only one basis for locking him up: the weight of the crime of which my client is suspected. In his annual address the president said it is necessary to be involved with childhood. And with one letter a person’s reputation has been blackened!

In the prosecutor’s office Ryabov became ill from the pressure and was taken to the prison branch of the 20th hospital. Nevertheless, on 15 January the decision of the closed judicial panel was passed and Anatoly Ryabov was placed in a solitary confinement cell. It is not known why the decision was this instead of placing him under pledge not to leave a certain place, or under house arrest. As of 18 January the professor of music Anatoly Ryabov, 65 years, has been taken into custody at Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 5 and quarantined with no visitors permitted.

In the meantime, today the facts of another firing at the Central Music School have been released. Stanislav Alexandrovich Katenin, of the wind instrument and percussion faculty, in relation to 11 year old contrabass player Lyova Lysenko. A previous victim of administrative reprisals at the school was mathematics teacher Maria Ivanovna Salazkina.

The scandal with Anatoly Ryabov, which appears to stem from quite different
motives, has not remained local. Many leading Russian media outlets have
broadcast it. As fault of the teacher has not been proven, some have hurried to attribute that the accusations will possibly not end up in a single lawsuit. The majority of the editions have made their own investigations and expressed doubt at the accusations.

“There is a struggle. The director considers Ryabov a competitor whom parents and students would like to take the seat as head. It has been explained as slander. In such cases there are two typical scenarios: the person is accused of bribery or sexual harassment. It was suggested that Ryabov leave, and nothing would come of it. Though he left, he had regrets and came to consult with me.”

According to the lawyer, Ryabov came to him at the end of 2010, a month before his arrest. The lawyer advised him to petition to have his job reinstated, asking his resignation to be nullified as it was written under pressure. The day after Ryabov made the petition for his job, the application for corruption of the 13 year old Irina was brought forward.

In turn, to hide the problems at the Central School at the Moscow Conservatory is obviously not possible. Illegal prosecutions and firings of dissenting teachers have occurred en masse. Parents have united to protect children against the orders reigning at the school. Children have been organized to boycott lessons with teacher-strikebreakers.

For example, this link leads to a shocking video of “Sex with Anfisha Chekhova” about the composer and erotomane Jaroslav Sudzilovsky, whose ballet “The Furious Phallus” was a revelation to critics and the ordinary listener. Mr. Sudzilovski now teaches composition to children at the Central Music School.

In the background of the arrest of Anatoly Ryabov, of which the reasons are
possibly far from the accusations, is a question: what and who now teach the children at the Central Music School with the mass layoffs of the teachers, teachers who are the gold that brought glory to this school?

issued. Current information available is that he has submitted a letter of
resignation “of his own accord”.

My 8 euros of entrance payment were more useful than usually, I hope.

My note in the Book of replies to the "After-War", Helsingin contemporary art museum Kiasma's installation of Kristina Norman, dedicated to the Tallinn's "Bronze Soldier":

Kristina, thank you for the installation. To tell you the truth, I think that Estonian authorities were absolutely right when they removed the Soviet-era monument from its former place into the special memorial park. Firstly, because it is real symbol of Soviet (and quite bloody!) occupation of Estonia (and not only an anti-Nazi symbol), and secondly because such monument must be (if must...) located at memorial cemetery, but not at the centre of capital of the independent state.
